Smeg is an Italian home appliance manufacturer that was founded in 1948 by Vittorio Bertazzoni. The company’s name is an acronym for Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla, which roughly translates to “Emilian metallurgical enamel works in Guastalla.”
Initially, Smeg produced enameled metal components for the kitchen, such as cookers and ovens. In the 1950s, the company began producing its own line of domestic appliances, including refrigerators, washing machines, and dishwashers.
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Smeg established itself as a leading producer of high-end domestic appliances, with a focus on design and innovation. The company’s products were known for their bold colours and sleek, retro-inspired styling, which became a hallmark of the Smeg brand.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Smeg expanded its product range to include small appliances, such as toasters, kettles, and blenders, as well as commercial appliances for restaurants and hotels.
Today, Smeg is a global brand with a presence in over 80 countries. The company’s products continue to be known for their distinctive design, quality, and attention to detail. Smeg’s range of appliances includes refrigerators, ovens, cooktops, range hoods, dishwashers, washing machines, and small appliances.
